PCC

I spent Saturday at the Polynesian Cultural Center. I actually didn't record a whole lot, but the place is sufficiently documented on youtube. Still, I thought I'd collect some hightlights here so you know where to start.

In Samoa, you want to learn about who does the cooking, how they make a fire, climb trees, open a coconut and get coconut milk. Sorry to throw so many on this, but they did a lot of cool things and some videos are better showing different parts.

creating a fire:

I'd also recommend this one about who does the cooking (towards the end).

Samoa - tree climb

All about the coconut:

Same guy, different day and angle here

Here's another guy doing the entire show:partI & partII.

Final suggestion is a video showing a competition between 2 of the Samoans.

I really like Tahitian dancing so of course I had to find some clips of that. They do make a point that Tahitians are the only ones that "go crazy with the hips" (to quote Bartok).

Here they are again during the canoe show:

Tonga had another really entertaining presentation. Basically, get some people on stage and make them look funny.

The main point seems to be to confusing the japanese guy, who seems to usually be the third one they get up on stage. Here's a funny one.

Here's a couple pictures from the canoe show. It just shows some of the different costuming.

Finally, the night show. It highlights each village. The new part is the fire show. Here's some selections:

Aunt Donna did a couple fire baton routines, I think, when she was in high school!
The entertainers have a lot of personality!!
Looks like it was fun.
